Happy Birthday to Vincenzo Sciarappa – 100 Years Old!
Possibly the world’s oldest living Sciarappa, Vincenzo is pictured here at a young age and he was born in Ascoli, Satriano on August 1st, 1913 according to his daughter, Anna Sciarappa of Rome, Italy. His father was Giovanni Sciarappa, his mother Giuseppina Pedone, and he had one older brother Potito and two sisters, Carmela and Cecilia. Some of his family emigrated to Turin when he was young. Anna’s father’s life has been quite an adventurous. He left his small hilltown at the age of 16-17, and at age 20, enrolled in the North African War to conquer Colonies under Mussolini. After, he also fought in World War II, still in Africa, was imprisoned by the British and remained in a prison camp for 7 years in Africa. Vincenzo gained a Medal of Honor cross for his courage in battle.
As an translator, he learned English, French, and German - and worked in Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the 1940′s. Then he worked for forty years as an interpreter at the Roma airports of Ciampino and Fiumicino. He married and had two daughters – Guilia and Anna. They celebrated their 67 years of marriage!!!
